This is a tour I started doing only a few years ago and by far it was the most popular of all my tours. We started in Abruzzo, a region east of Rome between the Appennini mountains and the Adriatic sea. We spent a few days in a country hotel among olive groves and vineyards. Then we spent a few more days in a hotel by the beach. Next, we spent two days in the Campobasso area and several days in Puglia. The last two days were in Rome.
Every morning we had some interesting activity in different towns, where my people enjoyed seeing the local life, walk through street markets, eat delicious foods and wine, and meet relatives. We always had lunch in different country restaurants, where we learned to cook about fifteen different local specialties. Our teachers were the restaurant’s chef (the mamma and papa) and grand-mama and grand-papa served! They were the best cooks and waiters in the world!
We visited three wineries, two pasta factories, one cheese factory, one olive oil mill and one confetti factory. We went to a couple of “Agriturismo” (farm-restaurant), where people had the opportunity of milking the cow and riding a donkey! We had one picnic by a mountain, one by a river and another one by the sea. We visited a shopping mall, a few historic places, museum and religious shrines. We visited a few remote mountain towns where some people in the group had family roots. Yes, we danced with the locals in classy ballrooms. It was a total immersion in the local life. Mamma Mia, we had fun, fun, fun! Several Italian-Americans had the joy of visiting for the first time the town of their family roots and embrace relatives they had met.
The detailed program, dates and cost of this tour can only be established when we know that it will be completely safe to travel to Italy. So, please keep in touch.
